Although the car was great and the lunch was great the whole day was a waste of time. The Pakistani driver was NOT a guide he had no idea of the places he told us a building was a Government building when in fact it was the Ritz Carlton Hotel!!! When asked about the inscriptions he had no idea and would say “ it is a holly message I can not translate”” when in fact it was only the name of the street! The tour promised “ wonderful” stories about the history. This driver had not one story to tell and his English was mediocre at best. With an extremely heavy accent he was very difficult to understand. The lunch place was nice and a great experience but for $334 us dlls this was a total waste of time and money. Most of the places were closed so he should have taken us to other places and not just drop us off ant an Americanized mall and take us walking in the heat along a disappointing and very boring boardwalk. Do not waste your time and money on this tour.
It is very apparent that SA is very new to international tourism. A full day tour of Jedda did not work well for several reasons: 1. The guide was not really a guide, he was a driver with medium English knowledge at best, with no formal cultural knowledge. 2. Everything is closed in the mornings and opens late afternoon or evening, so all city locations visited were closed or not accessible. 3. We were not able to access several areas of interest because of the formula one construction and the old Town is also mostly under restoration. The tour needs to be taken in the afternoon and evening to take advantage of the different opening times and maybe by 2030 when all the reconstruction should be completed. The only highlight in the tour was an included local lunch in a typical SA food place, which was very good.
