Jeddah: Al-Balad Old Town Historical City Guided Tour

The tour guide Sulaiman and Ziad was very knowledgeable, good public relation, walk slowly as requested, fetch us out of zone upon request. We are above 60. They really take care us like own family

My guide was excellent. He shared the history of Saudi Arabia in general, and of Jeddah in particular. He gave detailed information about the architecture of Al Balad, which I appreciated. A special experience was at the Al Shaffie Mosque, where he introduced me to Sheik Mohammed, who gave a wonderful presentation about the beliefs of Islam. I highly recommend this tour.

I loved how personal the experience was. Our guide was simply incredible, very open and genuine. He explained the history and culture in such an excellent way, and the spots we visited were really good.

Sulaiman was our guide. He was very helpful and professional. Highly recommended. Only one thing I have also mentioned to him that he should speak a little bit slower, especially if guests are not native English speakers. But overall fantastic

This tour for us was almost more about our fantastic guide Sulaiman, than just the old part of Jeddah. Sulaiman is a very bright young university student, with a passion for his town, his culture and his job. We learned so much from him not only about Jeddah but about Saudi Arabia in general, its history as well as its religion, Islam. We ended the tour feeling much more connected to the Saudi culture and more appreciative of it. And don't get us wrong, there is a lot to learn about the historical part of Jeddah as well. It will be interesting to visit this part of the city again once that the massive ongoing refurbishment project by the Saudi authorities is completed. Shukran Sulainman, Jazakallah kheir.

Our tour guide Sulaiman collected us at a local hotel lobby meeting point (Crowne Plaza) which was literally a 2 minute walk from our own hotel. 16.45 start time but this was pushed back a little to 5pm (What’s App message) and eventually started at 17.10. Just 3 of us on the tour. My wife & I and an English speaking German tourist. A nice & friendly group! We were driven a short distance to the Old Town (Al-Balad). Sulaiman spoke very well and was obviously passionate about Jeddah, Al-Balad and its history. He was very informative and a quick walker but all of us were fit enough to keep up. We sampled some food and drinks (Subia & Arabic tea) which was a nice touch. And he even bought some nice little souvenirs which he gave to us at the end (fridge magnet/key chain etc). Tour lasted just over 3 hours after which we were dropped back to the Crowne Plaza. An informative and lovely historical walk in pleasant ambient temperatures.

My husband and went on this tour with Suleiman, and it was the highlights of our trip to Saudi Arabia. Suleiman shared fascinating insights about the history of Saudi Arabia and the origins of Islam. From the first moment we met, he was warm, friendly, and incredibly easy to talk to — it felt like spending time with an old friend. In Al Balad, Suleiman showed us all the interesting spots while explaining how people used to live there and the significance behind the historic buildings. He also took us to a lovely local coffee shop, where we enjoyed delicious Arabic coffee with sweets. Later, he recommended an excellent local restaurant and even took the time to explain the traditional dishes so we could make the best choices. We had such a great time, and we learned so much. I would highly recommend this tour — and especially Suleiman — to anyone visiting Jeddah. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish.

Great tour to learn about historic Jeddah, and Islam in general. Our guide was young, educated, and so generous telling us stories about his life and family - really brought to life the Islam culture and gave us an insight into to Saudi Arabia. He reminds us that we are all the same at the end of the day - a wonderful experience. Recommended!

Everything was amazing!! So friendly and clearly not in any rush to end early. The old town is a bit quiet on Friday as a heads up!
