About this experience
Explore Mexico City’s daily life through its street food and markets. Taste tacos, tamales and atole as your guide shares the history, culture and traditions behind Mexico’s vibrant cuisine.
Join this intimate, small-group tour (max 12 people) for an authentic experience of Mexico City’s vibrant markets and culture! Start by exploring a hidden market, where you’ll see political art from the 1900s. Your guide will share the socio-political history of Mexico and its relevance today. Next, travel like a local on the metro to a flower market bursting with color, fresh produce, herbs, meat, pinatas, and even love potions! Along the way, you’ll sample tasty Mexican street foods like tacos, tamales, and atole, a traditional warm drink. As you explore, your guide will introduce you to the traditions behind Mexican cuisine, from the role of indigenous ingredients like corn and chilies to the regional flavors that shape everyday dishes. You’ll also learn how traditional salsa is made — the fresh vegetables and chilies used, the tools like the molcajete, and how everything is washed, grilled and ground together — giving you insight into each step and its cultural importance. Along the way, you’ll support independent market vendors and gain real connections with locals, all while enjoying a sustainable, eco-friendly tour.

“Ended up having a private tour which was very lucky for me, as I got a chance to ask all the questions i had. The tour guide was amazing and very knowledgeable, I learned so much about the interesting history of Mexico, but also its political movements. It was lovely to get a chance to see where locals eat and try traditional dishes. The food was absolutely delicious. It was really nice making my own salsa in a family owned business and getting to taste it with freshly made guarache. The tour was a fantastic introduction into Mexico on my second day here. So many experiences and information, i very likely wouldnt have had by myself. Definitely recommend!! Pro tip is to show up hungry as you don’t want to miss out on all the lovely tastings :)”
“Our guide Pacho was incredible, gave us a lot of history and interesting information about CDMX and took us to places we would never go by ourselves. We ate a lot and everything was spotless. We were also lucky enough to be just us in the tour(couple), and no obnoxious US tourists. Overall this is probably on the top 3 tours I have ever done.”
“Was a great experience seeing the markets, learning about the history of the city and making our own salsa!”
