“This is by far one of my favorite experiences I have done, in Japan and in general! I love martial arts, and learning from a true samurai descendant seemed like an amazing opportunity. Though it was a bit expensive, my boyfriend and I are so glad we did it! We are from the US, and our Japanese is not great, but he spoke basic English for us, and always made sure we understood what was going on. He explained things in detail, gave examples, and helped us correct things kindly. He was exact about what needed to be done for safety and proper form, but never harsh. In general, you can tell he deeply respects his craft and is very passionate about it. I am left handed, and it is only right handed, so that may be something to consider, but I did surprisingly well and honestly don't think it impacted my experience too much, just a bit with the archery. We were fortunate enough to book a day where it was just us, so it felt like a private lesson, which was amazing. Overall, 10/10 recommend!!”
“Sumida Sensei and Harry were amazing hosts for the introductory training class. it was a very good balance between a small bit of history at the start and then hands-on activities for the rest of the class. Both Sumida Sensei and Harry were extremely good teachers, delivering instructions clearly but also very patient. They were very pleasant, and approachable, and respectful of other cultures and religions. The course was 100% worth the value you pay and definitely something everyone should try. Just be respectful. Also, it is worth heading to the course 30 minutes early for the demonstration and watching their practice”
“The entire experience was amazing. Sumida-Sensei was patient, thorough, captivating, interesting and he had tones of fun and witty humor. From handling the katana, to sparring to archery, while also learning about the entire construction of the sword and his history as a samurai descendant, made fo fascinating learning. From beginning to end, it was an amazing experience and training that was a highlight of our trip.”

super cool
Yoshioki is a highly professional teacher who is knowledgeable in martial arts and archery. He gave us an excellent introduction to the art of katana sword fighting. I really enjoyed sparring with swords, and the lessons on Japanese swords are also very interesting. Yoshikoi speaks English very well. I really like this course and would recommend it to anyone interested in Japanese martial arts. Elio
The activity was well planned and organised. The costume provided is very clean! The instructor is very professional and he is proud of being a samurai. He shared details and history of the samurai and correct what was mislead by movies. We enjoyed and highly recommend this activities.

This is more than an activity. It’s an experience that’s worth every penny. We learned Samurai history and practiced cutting archery and sparring. Do yourself a favor and take this class if you’re in Tokyo.

Great introduction for beginners into Bushido, which included katanas and yumi.

Sumida-San's activity was very instructive, fun and well prepared. We did all of it without seeing time was flying. Sumida-san is a kind person who pays attention to details and I loved that he was easy to speak with. I recommend strongly his activity.
This was SO MUCH FUN and extremely informative and interactive. It’s a real class, not entertainment! I am a bit sore the day after because it is a bit of a workout but so worth it. Thank you to the incredible and accomplished teachers. Inspired me to even pick up training when I get home as well! Arigato gozaimasu!!!!!
Very good lesson! Once in a lifetime opportunity that needs to be experienced, not only were we taught with real samurai sword, we were also taught the materials used to create one! The lesson was fun and insightful, highly recommend !! ❤️
This was the best activity ever. The class was really great fun from start to finish. Yoshioki Sumida was brilliant he taught us with ease and passion making the experience very authentic. Hands on cutting with a real katana and archery using Japanese style longbow. Easy to find . Would recommended 100% .
I love how Sumida-Sensei shared about his story as a descendant of a Samurai and his training really did show his rigour nature. A really patient and fun teacher i must say. I'm definitely recommending this to anyone looking for a really immersive cultural experience here!
Great experience, you train as actual students instead of being shown a demonstration. Our group had meaningful insight to the history of Japanese swordsmanship and the training was quite fun and demanding at the same time which added the excitement. Sumida was a great teacher and fun person to talk to. Learning basic training with real swords was amazing. I couldn’t recommend this enough.
